Assignment 3 - Refined Narrative

The final video will portray the idea of visualization of the imaginative architecture through abstraction. A series of transformations will be visualized in reality. There will be views for exploring the environment in an interactive way with the viewer perception. Ideas come from our minds, and then, they are visualized by different tools. At last, it will be created in the reality. The final video will illustrate the inter-relationship between minds, digital world and reality. Let's think beyond our logic and see beyond our eyes. The imaginative architectural machine is submerged between reality and imagination. ( The floating machine is a metaphor for the "architectural machine" (from the first reading "the architectural machine")

The imaginative architectural machine is coming from our minds, and protruding through our eyes. It transformed towards the digital simulated world, and altered in this diversified scope. It collided inside the scope and dashed out to the reality. It floated through the windows and searched for its destination. It drifted across the street and the sky. When it moved along the street, everything is real in front of our eyes. Buildings are static and the street is calm. The floating architectural machine is our imagination, visualizes our ideas and brings vision to us. It kept revolutionizing between the reality and the imaginative world.

For the presentation approach, at first, the imaginative machine will appear in a blur and unclear form in order to create a mysterious sense. When the video goes further, the object will become clearer. And this builds up the climax for the video.

However, no matter how the machine transforms, how our imagination goes beyond. Our logic is always framing our thinking to a reasonable extent. The logic will hinder our creativity. It is like a box which lay down four plains to restrict our imaginations. Finally, the floating machine will float and explode out of a box, and visualize the idea of “thinking outside the box" and breaking the archaic thinking.

Synopsis of “Narrative Models: A Database Approach to Modeling Medieval Cairo“- 200 words

There are so many ways of visualizing the concept of design. Using modeling software as a tool becomes more feasible nowadays. The computer software is very useful for the designers to engage in visualizing their imagination and ideas. This approach provides a flexible framework for organizing simulations. Furthermore, abstraction is an important factor for us to visualizing our imagination. Treating the model as abstractions requires both our ability to tame our desire for complete reliability and our consistency with the intended level of abstraction. Therefore, in order for modeling to be successful for imaginative visualization, the model must be treated as abstraction. The article suggested that we should modify our approach towards designing the walk-through. Instead of creating the model of imagination, we should perceive two kinds of views for the visualization: the view essential for representing the transformation of the design and the view necessary for exploring the environment in the interactive walk-through mode. Thus, if we are trying to visualizing our imagination, we need to think in terms of the process of transformation and construction, and the vision of the pedestrian movement and street pattern.

Assignment 3 – Initial outline and visual direction

My final video will continue the theme of the previous assignment which is about thinking beyond our logic and see beyond our eyes. The imaginative architectural machine is visualized into the real world. It will float across the street, the sky and transforming from the computer to the physical world. With our imagination and creativity, we can always see beyond our eyes and nothing is impossible. The floating architectural machine is our imagination, visualizes our ideas and brings vision to us.

Normally, we perceive objects from our eyes, and the images will become our memories. And those memories will become our knowledge, as we trust what we have seen.
When we walk along the street, everything is real in front of our eyes. Buildings are static and the street is calm. However, we can always see beyond our eyes with the ideas of hypertextural picturesque. Imagination and creativity are always the key factors. We can visualize what we imagine and we can move beyond our eye level to reach for the object that we wish to create. Moreover, no matter how creative we are. Our logic is always framing our thinking to a reasonable extent. It is like a box which lay down four plains to restrict our imaginations. And finally, after a few steps back of thinking, we can notice what we thought is still framed inside a box and it is back to reality.

Interpretation of “Hypertextural Picturesque” and “Systemic Delay” - 100 words

Building alone can be anything or nothing. Architecture incorporates many elements and they are interrelated, in the broader perspective. We should not let the traditional way of thinking which limits creativity, flexibility to act as a hindrance to our way of thinking. Think outside the box, allowing more input variables from external sources and considering more alternatives may result in a better, unpredictable result. Acknowledge the fact that ideas and thoughts, being neither physical nor tangible, may be as vital and indispensable, as those physical and tangible ones, to the process of thinking, creation and architectural appreciation.

The concept of "architectural Machine" - 150 words

Word - Evolution

On one hand, architectural machine brings of a new philosophy into the design of architecture; it serves as a leading light for the architectural evolution. It breaks the archaic thinking which the norm of purity and harmony govern the ways of design and make it part of a well-tempered universe. On the other hand, architectural machine is more on the realistic side of life. The theory is optimal from the economic point of view, provides the maximum benefit for the minimum cost. This thinking is ruled by conditions, which could be known only through observation and demonstration. And it did not happen in one day; it accumulated as river from drops of water. Architectural Machine overturned the system of design and brought evolution. It provides a new frame for perceiving buildings. With evolution, the world comes with new functions and thinking.
